Rules & Regulations
What is important to know before I bring my dog?
Durham Dog Park
Park patrons are required to follow these rules and to promptly comply.
Please take time to read and understand them completely. These rules are
in place to protect all members, canine and human. .
All dogs must meet Health and License Requirements as identified in the
Dogapalooza handbook.
All dogs must be 12 weeks of age
Current on the following vaccinations:
Rabies
Parvo/Distemper
Bordatella
All dogs must have an annual fecal test to check for contagious parasites.
Entry into the off-leash area is at the risk of the dog owners. Dog owners
are responsible and liable for any property damage to property, persons,
or other animals caused by their dog(s).
No entry without Dogapalooza Tag. Dog(s) must also wear I.D. and rabies
tag at all times.
No prong or spike collars, these can injure dogs during play.
Owners are required to clean up after their dog(s). Mutt mitt stations and
receptacles are available throughout the park.
No other animals (non-dogs) may be brought into the designated park area.
Hours of operation: sunrise to sunset.
Keep an eye on your dog at ALL times, and keep your leash with you.
Dogs must be leashed outside the fenced play area.
Dogs may not be brought into the park if they are:
Less than three months of age.
Females in heat.
Sick or unhealthy.
Have a history of aggressiveness, or have been deemed dangerous.
If aggressive behavior is observed, take immediate action: either move your
dog to another part of the park, or leave the park.
No more than three dogs per person on any single visit.
Children under the age of twelve MUST be supervised by an adult and stay
within arms reach. Dog owners must be 18 years of age to obtain a Dogapalooza
membership. Spectators should remain outside the fenced area.
Dogs must never be left unattended. Dog owners must be in view of their
dogs with voice control at all times.
No large dogs in the small dog area, and vice versa. Even the most innocent
of play between a large dog and a small dog can potentially lead to injury.
Smoking and eating are prohibited inside the fenced in area. Cigarette butts
and food wrappers are tempting and unhealthy for dogs.
Food in bowls, long-lasting chews and glass containers are not allowed within
the fenced in play area.
Fill in any holes your dog may dig or make appropriate repairs to disturbed
areas.
All dog bites must be reported. If a bite occurs you must exchange your
name and phone number to the other owner. Call the Durham County Animal
Control office at (919) 560-0630. If the incident occurs before 10:30 a.m.
or after 5 p.m., or on the weekend, call 911. Please also call the Parks
& Recreation Department number at 560-4355.
The City of Durham Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right
to close the off-leash area for maintenance and/or repairs.
Dogs, owners, and park users creating a disturbance or violating posted
rules must immediately leave the off-leash area if requested by law enforcement
personnel, park personnel or their designated agents.
All other Durham County and North Carolina Animal laws and ordinances apply.
Professional dog trainers/behaviorists are not permitted to use the park
in any conduct of their business unless they have reserved the program area
with Durham Parks & Recreation.
Bicycles, rollerblades, rollerskates, skateboards, and strollers are prohibited.
